Earthquake kills Morethan 260 in Pakistan N Afghanistan; No casualties from India
Islamabad/Kabul/New Delhi, October 26: The death toll is increasing with every minute in Pakistan and now reports of deaths in Afghanistan has also been reported. As per to the latest report received, 130 people have lost their lives in Pakistan and claimed 12 student lives from Afghanistan — taking the toll to 21 — in the earthquake that took place at around 2:09 pm in Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan with a magnitude of 7.7 on Richter scale on Monday. However, no reports of any casualties from India were heard.
The reports also suggest that more than 300 are suspected injured in the earthquake whose tremors were felt for more than five seconds in the South Asian countries which includes Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. The after shocks of 4.8 magnitude was also registered soon after 45 minutes of the earthquake which took place 212.5 kms under the surface of earth. While mud building were completely destroyed in in the tremors, 12 girls were killed when a stampede broke out in their school in Taluqan city, the capital of the remote province of Takhar. With this 21 people lost their lives in Afghanistan. (ALSO READ: Earthquake: Death toll rises to 52 in Pakistan, 200 injured; One reported injured in Jammu and Kashmir) As per to the United States Geological Survey the epicentre of the earthquake was near Jurm in Badakhshan province, neighbouring Takhar in Afghanistan, while previous reports suggested that the epicentre was Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan. The Dawn news reported that ten districts in Pakistan including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Quetta, Kohat, Malakand, Swat and Rawalpindi have been worst affected, with many of the buildings collapsed in the area. Tremors were also felt in northern region of India with its effect from Srinagar to New Delhi. In India too, tremors rocked the Northern states including Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and New Delhi. While no casualties were reported yet, one person was injured in the quake in Kashmir. All together, till now more than 300 people in Pakistan are reportedly injured, while 40 have minor injuries in Afghanistan. The government officials expect the number likely to rise in the coming times. With the earthquake hitting the three South-Asian countries, celebration of separated physically challenged girl Geeta coming back to India from Pakistan was called off. (ALSO READ: Earthquake measuring 7.5 hits North India; shocks felt in Chandigarh, New Delhi, Srinagar ) Based on the IMD reports, its clearly shows that this is the third such incident in last one month in Pakistan where massive earthquake had taken place. Just two days ago on October 23, a 5.6 magnitude of earthquake hit Pakistan, which in September 2013, a magnitude-7.7 quake struck Pakistan’s Balochistan province, killing around 800 people. In India too, tremors were felt in New Delhi today. As per to IMD, the last time it happened in the national capital was on October 9 with a magnitude of 3.0. Quick action teams have reached the spots in Pakistan and armed forces have been inducted in the rescue actions. Pakistan has also released the helpline numbers for the emergency relief services. Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon after the incident has asked for the assessment report and have directed the Indian Air Force and the Indian Army to take a stock into the issue. Modi also has said that India is ready to lend all possible help to the affected people in Pakistan and Afghanistan. its increased by 278 & more than 1500 injured... i felt this earthquake. it was intensed & very long in duration.
