ICC calls back Pak umpire, Akram, Akhtar won't commentate in Mumbai ODI
The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday announced that it has withdrawn umpire Aleem Dar from the remaining matches of the ongoing one-day international series between India and South Africa.
Dar, a member of the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires, had officiated in the first three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and was also scheduled to umpire in the fourth and fifth ODIs in Chennai and Mumbai on 22 and 25 October, respectively. Akram, Akhtar won't commentate According to Pakistani TV channel Geo News, former cricketers Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar, who are currently in India as part of the commentary team of a sports channel, have also decided to return back to their country ahead of the 5th ODI between India and South Africa in the wake of Shiv Sena's threat. The decision comes after Shiv Sena activists' violent protest against BCCI-PCB meet in Mumbai. The activists, who were against India-Pakistan bilateral series, stormed into BCCI headquarters in Mumbai and threatened the board's chief Shashank Manohar against hosting any meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Shahryar Khan. "Under the present circumstances, it will be unreasonable to expect from Aleem that he will be able to perform his duties to the best of his abilities. As such, he has been withdrawn and his replacement will be announced in due course," an ICC spokesman said. Saddened by what happened: Najam Sethi A three-member delegation of the PCB - Shahryar, the chairman of the Executive Committee Najam Sethi and chief operating officer Subhan Ahmad - was in India to meet the BCCI officials on Indo-Pak cricketing ties. Talking exclusively to India Today, Najam Sethi said, "We are saddened that nobody from BCCI met us or informed us on what happened. Indian authorities have not got back to us. I can't see why a meeting could not be held after what happened in the morning. We are flying back There was no response from BCCI about today." Barring Shahryar Khan, who is scheduled to meet Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in New Delhi on Tuesday, all other PCB officials have reportedly decided to fly back to Pakistan. |
