MIB directs broadcasters to refrain from providing signals to illegal DTH ops
MUMBAI: The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) has issued a notice to all broadcasters to refrain from providing signals to unauthorised direct-to-home (DTH) operators.
The ministry said that certain DTH operators are beaming into India free-to-air (FTA) channels without obtaining due licence, registration or authorisation. It further stated that broadcasters having permitted TV channels are allowing their signals to be used by such unauthorised operators. The notice drew attention to Clause 5.6 of Article 5 of Downlinking guidelines, which state that all broadcasters will provide TV channel signal reception decoders only to registered multi-system operators (MSOs), DTH, IPTV, or headend-in-the-sky (HITS) operators. The ministry reiterated that compliance of the above clause should be strictly adhered to by all registered broadcasters. In no case should satellite TV channel signal decoders or access to signals be given to unregistered MSOs, DTH, IPTV and HITS operators. Non-adherence to the regulation would attract stern action in case broadcasters fail to take immediate corrective measures, the ministry stated. Guests cannot see images and links in the messages.
