Raised Recruitments by IT giants witnessed in South India’s B. Tech Colleges
Contrary to what was expected, engineering
colleges in Tamil Nadu have reported to have much more job hiring offered by big IT firms than usual. However, the increase is not too much wide yet colleges are satisfied with the number of offers. Accenture offered to recruit 1,688 students at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Wipro presented offer letters to some 1,162 students while Cognizant was near to Wipro with offer to 1,084. Summing up to 3,934 offers, this is above than the 3,603 jobs offer witnessed in the previous year. Due to some students having multiple offers in handsHowever, thedefinite number of filled jobs would be lesser than offered. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) offered for 965 openings this year in SASTRA college of engineering, which last year were 867in total. At the same time Accenture offered 310 jobs, an increase when compared to 208 last year. Though, Wipro and IBMemployedconsiderably less in SASTRA College yet Wipro made 156 offers which were 283 last year, whereas IBM with 44 offers counter to 315 last year. 2200 students of SASTRA appeared in placement programme. At SRM University TCS was the chief recruiter with offering 1,154 job opportunities as matched with 858 last year.Whereas, Wipro had 227 jobs to offer which last year were around 290. Total of 3800 sat in the placement programme at SRM this year. However, not much increase in salary was observed as informed by S. Ganapathy, Dean of placement at SRM University. There is no fall observed in recruitment numbers of this year, however students in batches were more to be offered since four year course B. Tech/BE had increased seats and IT companies were still mass recruiters. This increase in seats of B. Tech/BE widened the gap in the number of students seeking job and the number of actual offers. The entry salaries however did not shift much which is still 3.5 lacs per annum same as last year. Cognizant in Chennai, placed job offers in colleges like Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering, Crescent College of Engineering as well as PSG in Coimbatore. In Bangalore’s R V College of Engineering, Accenture was the top recruiter with having 222 offerswhereas, Infosyswas close with making 203 offers and lastly, Cognizant with 173 offers. |
