Dish, Comcast avert blackout of SportsNet channels in five TV markets
Dish Network and Comcast's regional sports network agreed to a short-term extension of negotiations, so that the looming blackout of Comcast SportsNet channels in five leading TV markets can be temporarily avoided.
Though the details of the short-term deal between Dish and Comcast have not been officially disclosed, the extension of negotiations will ensure, at least for the time being, that Comcast SportsNet channels are kept on air in the five affected markets --- Chicago, New England, the Mid-Atlantic, California, and the Bay Area. The extension of negotiations between Dish and Comcast comes in the wake of the expiry of their carriage contract on Monday. For over one week, both Dish and Comcast have been engaged in a public scuffle over programming fees. Comcast has, in fact, launched a full-blown media blitz in an attempt to warn viewers that the company's SportsNet channels - which are operated by its NBCUniversal division - could probably be pulled from the programming lineup of Dish. The main point of contention between Dish and Comcast is the amount which Dish should pay for retransmission of Comcast's regional sports channels, which are part of the NBC Sports Group. While Dish has stated that Comcast is looking to hike the fees by 40 percent, Comcast has asserted that it is seeking a fee hike of less than 10 percent. http://mainenewsonline.com/content/14121...tv-markets |
