Rose bowls West Indies to memorable win OR Login to view. On this day in 1999, Franklyn Rose saved West Indies the blushes by bowling them to a stunning win over Zimbabwe in the first Test of the series in Trinidad. In a low-scoring Test match Andy Flower's first innings century and Heath Streak's second innings five-fer had put the visitors in pole-position for a win. West Indies started the final day at 147 for nine and folded without adding a run to their overnight score as Streak took his fifth wicket. A target of 99 should have been a walk in the park for a gritty Zimbabwe side of the nineties except they were up against a menacing bowling attack that featured both Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh. However it was Franklyn Rose who picked up 4/19 as Zimbabwe mysteriously slipped from being 37/2 to 63 all out. It marked the first time that a team had failed to chase a target less than 100 in the final innings of a Test match. Stay Tuned to SATHUNTERS FORUM You will be amazed........ |

23rd March 2003
India fall at the last step OR Login to view. There was a big roar from the crowd when Sourav Ganguly called the right side of the coin. However, they were unaware of what was to come. To everyone's surprise, because there was a bit of dampness on the pitch, Ganguly opted to field. India's opening bowler Zaheer Khan couldn't handle the pressure of a final and he bowled a 10-ball over, which yielded Australia 15 runs. From that point, the Aussies never looked back. Adam Gilchrist attacked from the word go and Australia were 100/0 in no time. Although India hit back with two quick wickets, skipper Ricky Ponting and Damien Martyn shared an unbeaten 234-run stand for the third wicket, which meant Australia posted a massive 359/2. Ponting in particular, was severe on the bowling hitting 4 fours and 8 massive sixes. It was also the highest individual score then in a World Cup final. India's dreams were shattered when Glenn McGrath dismissed Sachin Tendulkar in the very first over. Although Virender Sehwag (82) and Rahul Dravid (47) showed some resistance, the Aussies bowlers picked wickets at regular intervals and eventually, they bowled India out for 234 in the 40th over to burst into celebrations. 11th June 1999
A World Cup hat-trick OR Login to view. Saqlain Mushtaq needs no introduction and he was at his peak in 1990s and early 2000s. On 11th June 1999, in the seventh World Cup, he became only the second bowler after Wasim Akram to take two hat-tricks in ODIs. Interestingly, his first hat-trick had come in the 1996 World Cup. Pakistan thrashed Zimbabwe by 148 runs that night in a Super Six encounter at The Oval. Henry Olonga, Adam Huckle, and Pommie Mbangwa were his victims this time.
