Arasu directs cable ops to charge no more than Rs. 70 from subscribers
MUMBAI: Arasu Cable TV Corporation has directed all its linked multi-system operators (MSOs) and local cable operators (LCOs) to strictly follow the stipulated monthly subscription fee cap of Rs. 70.
In a strongly worded statement, state-owned Arasu said that the MSOs and LCOs cannot demand more than Rs. 70 from subscribers. The MSO currently offers 90–100 channels at Rs. 70 a month. Cable operators will have to remit Rs. 20 to the government out of the Rs. 70 collected from each subscriber. Arasu said that MSOs and LCOs using its signals will have to issue serial-numbered receipts to the subscribers beginning 5 February. The MSO also urged customers to insist on such official receipts. It called upon the subscribers to lodge complaints against cable operators who are found flouting the rules. Arasu Cable TV Corporation managing director J. Kumaragurubaran said, “The LCOs and MSOs should not issue any other receipts and not charge more than the stipulated subscription amount. Anyone found doing so would be liable to face strict action.” Kumaragurubaran also revealed that the corporation had about 65.62 lakh (6.6 million) subscribers and 24,706 registered MSOs and LCOs.
