Doordarshan urged to scrap analogue terrestrial TV service
Direct-to-home (DTH) satellite television transmission should entirely replace the terrestrial analogue TV service of India's public television provider Doordarshan, an expert panel has told the government.

In its report, submitted to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on 24 January 2104, the Prasar Bharati Expert Committee, chaired by Sam Pitroda, says that 92% of Indian households currently access TV through cable and satellite platforms. It suggests that Doordarshan should expand its existing satellite and digital cable TV services and continue to provide channels for transmission on private DTH and cable platforms, according to the Press Trust of India. The report forms part of the ongoing review into Prasar Bharati's institutional framework and continuing role as a public broadcaster.
