Chameera replaces injured Prasad in SL squad
OR Login to view. Sri Lanka have named fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera as a replacement for the injured Dhammika Prasad, who was ruled out of the World Cup squad of Sunday. Prasad fractured his left hand at practice on Saturday, dealing a major blow to the team's fast bowling line-up. The choice was to be made between Chameera and Shaminda Eranga and the Sri Lankan team management decided to give the youngster a go. The 23-year-old was first named in the Test squad for the tour of New Zealand, but only played the tour match. He later got to play the seventh ODI against New Zealand, where he ended with two for 60 in eight overs, including the wicket of Ross Taylor. Chameera plays for Nondescripts Cricket Club, and has is known to be one of the quickest young bowlers in the country and is capable of bowling frequently above 140kph. He has 42 first-class wickets at 30.07 from 18 matches. Though the ICC is yet to approve the replacement, it is assumed that Chameera will get the green light ahead of Sri Lanka's second warm-up match against Zimbabwe in Lincoln on Wednesday. Sri Lanka lost their first warm-up to South Africa and will be eager to register a win before they open their World Cup campaign against New Zealand at Christchurch on February 14.
