RE: cable tv - set top box
In Delhi, the standard defination stb actual declared price is ₹800, but when you go to buy it, these local cable guys ask u to pay ₹300 -400 as renson stating shortage of boxes.
Even that's not all, when you move and want to take box along, they wouldn't give you the NOC ( no objection certificate) n would ask you to return it & pay 30 - 40% of actual ₹800. And when you move to new location, want to activate the same box with the same provider, they will first ask you for NOC which they also don't give, but if you present it, they will take 10-15 days at least but no guarantee, when would your subscription be active... Having said that you will also need to pay some kind of activation fee in advance. Being sick & tired of this, I opened my old DEN set top box for which I think a paid about ₹3000 a couple of years back & shocked to see STI5197 micro controller, which is very cheap. But also reached a conclusion that in such boxes, mostly smps goes faulty, please refer to any local TV repair / computer repair shop to verify if your power supply is faulty.
