Goa University Installed a Microscope Worth One Crore Rupees
With the help of University Grants Commission
(UGC), the Goa University has recently installed in its instrumentation centre a scanning electron microscope. This high-tech instrument allows magnifications up to 1 lakh on conducting and non-conducting samples as well as in-vivo biological materials. The university purchased this sophisticated microscope at Rs 1 crore, an additional grant it had received from the UGC at the end of the 11th five-year Plan. To make home for the instrument, a special cabin was set up in the instrumentation centre of the university. Open to use for the university's science departments, the instrument will also be available to all affiliated colleges of Goa University as well as to users from other institutes and industry, however on certain terms & conditions. It was inaugurated on 25 October by vice- chancellor Dr Satish Shetye in the presence of Professor VP Kamat. Carl Zeiss (India) is the manufacturer of the devise. The initiative for the procurement of the instrument was taken by the university’s former vice-chancellor, Professor D Deobagkar. |
